Exploring Giants: Paula Scher


Paula Scher is an extremely influential figure in the world of design. Her work with typography has made an incredibly long-lasting impact in her native city of New York and beyond.


Paula studied at an art school in Pennsylvania and graduated in 1970. She then moved to New York City to pursue a career in design. During her early years, she worked at both CBS and Atlantic Records as an art director, designing the album covers for various artists. Most notably, she designed the cover for Boston’s debut album, which she has a love/hate relationship with.

After she left the record industry, she co-founded a design firm with Terry Koppel, where they worked on brand identities until 1991. When she joined Pentegram, an independent design studio. Here is where some of her most famous works were created.
